{"ops":[{"insert":"My evolving thesis with this deck is that Planeswalkers are a relatively rudderless strategy and that to truly be effective with them, you need to give them a genuine deck theme to be a support for.\n\nThe observation I've had over time is that super friends decks tend to be highly prone to social strain when attempting to win commander games. A pile of Planeswalkers with some proliferation and counter manipulation tricks can lend to a win, because over time those Planeswalkers will provide an increasingly larger accumulation of game actions than the opponents get to take. But often times an element of achieving this end is electioneering combat away from your Planeswalkers. Someone usually has their feelings hurt or is irritated at the end of a game with a super friends deck.\n\nOn the other hand, I've noticed that folks who have chosen to focus on a planes walking character, tend to actually build more socially friendly and directed decks. I think this is because Planeswalkers are designed to represent a character's ethos more than provide thematic cohesion across the field of a card type. A Tezzeret deck will dictate a theme that relates well with artifacts. So rather than a collection of Planeswalkers whose connection is only loosely bound by colors and a game action that doesn't necessarily lead to related outcomes, you can distill a collection of Planeswalkers united by a more cohesive theme.\n\nThis notion crystalized for me as I prepped for "},{"attributes":{"link":"https://open.spotify.com/episode/1HDI2HKJX9qVZzgNei4kVb?si=8417173b361f45c0"},"insert":"an episode of the Legendary Creature Podcast"},{"insert":" where Andy and I attempt to suggest it's time to put "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Atraxa, Praetors' Voice"}},{"insert":" to pasture and find a new commander to give you the experience you want without having to use the most popular commander ever, and get eye rolls from the table.\n\nThe attempt with this deck is to use Planeswalkers who are focused on +1/+1 counters in some way. If you're looking to rid yourself of Atraxa, hopefully, this list scratches a few potential thematic itches by giving you a super friends experience that is focused on getting creatures bigger and sprinkling in a healthy helping of proliferation tricks to add to the benefits. While an experienced deck builder may find the notion of using Planeswalkers for a +1/+1 counter theme to be intuitively diffuse, I think the crossover is sensible in the end.\n\n"},{"insert":{"card-link":"Falco Spara, Pactweaver"}},{"insert":" is an intriguing commander and a useful starting point for the counters work, if luck doesn't reveal other options.
