{"ops":[{"insert":"Thanks to Cello for helping playtest the deck and hamer out some sideboard idea's!\nCauldron Familiar = Felix\nSnarling Gorehound = Chewie\n\nChangelog [18-02-2024]\n+2 Shelob's Ambush\n+1 Dawnbringer Cleric\n+1 Heap Gate\n-2 Golden Egg\n-2 Raffine's Informant\n\nChangelog [24-01-2024]\nMaindeck\n+4x Snarling Gorehound\n+4x Golden Egg\n+2x Chainer's Edict\n+1x Unearth\n+1x Cast Down\n\n-4x Candy Trail \n-3x Tithing Blade\n-3x Fanatical Offering\n-1x Orzhov Guildgate\n-1x Recommission\n\nSideboard\n+2x Standard Bearer\n+1x Duress\n+1x Nihil Spellbomb\n\n-2x Sacred Cat\n-2x Revoke Existence\n\nI've heard there are some people who are very interested in this deck. First of all. I'm honoured <3 Thank you all for checking out Felix I'd love to hear about your experiences with the deck and corrections on the sideboard ideas. Don't take any of the stuff written here as gospel. I have brewd the first draft of this deck in July 2023. I still consider this deck the first deck I've ever brewd so don't expect a Reid Duke or Aspiringspike level brew.\n\nFelix is an adaptation on the very popular Cawgates decks. Both decks look to interact with your opponent while aggressive 1 drop creatures go after their life total after being buffed up by the Gates. Felix is more aggressive about lowering your opponents life total.\nFelix (in my opinion) plays like an adaptive midrange deck. Adaptive decks are decks that can switch between Proactive and Reactive gameplay depending on the situation. In certain matchups you will sideboard into the control deck, more on that later.\n\nEarly 1 drop creatures that are hard to block like Gingerbrute and (the MKM spoiled good boy) Snarling Gorehound are great at putting early pressure on your opponent while you look for interaction/combo through Golden Egg, Lembas and Deadly Dispute.\nCauldron Familiar (aka Felix) is a great recursive threat that is extremely hard to get rid off as you can return it to the battlefield by sacrificing a food. This interaction is where Breathless Knight comes into play. As Breathless Knight will get +1/+1 counters each time you return Felix into play. Breathless knight has the very crucial keyword Lifelink which will swing matchups in your favour whenever you hit with it once as it will usually swing for about 5 damage (which even when blocked is a huge life swing). \nThe Food package is crucial to the deck! Felix can't be the annoying pest it is without the foods. \nAll creatures in the deck are mana value 3 or less which makes Unearth the greatest reanimation spell available!\nRecommission let's a creature enter the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counter. If used in Breathless Knight this get's it out of Lightning Bolt range as Breathless Knight sees itself enter the battlefield and put a +1/+1 counter on itself.\nRaffine's informant is a great creature to loot your Breathless Knight or Cauldron Familiar into the graveyard.\nFinally. Snarling Gorehound has extra text besides Menace. It allows you to Surveil 1 each time another creature enters the battlefield with power 2 or less. Evidently ALL or creatures are 1 or 2 power allowing you tu Surveil each time another creature enters the battlefield. Yes this works with Felix loops or just playing the creatures. The Surveil felt more powerful than I thought initially. As it allows you to agressieve dig for whatever you need. Dumping Breathless Knight in the graveyard while having an Unearth in hand just hits different.\n\n\nThings to keep in mind while playing the deck!\nThere is a moment after blockers are declared before damage is dealt. You have priority here so you can sacrifice whatever is blocking to Deadly Dispute to draw some cards."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Felix's ability to return to the battlefield is an activated ability and puts a trigger on the stack. Your opponent can respond to this trigger."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Breathless Knight's ability to put a +1/+1 counter on it. Is a triggered ability. Your opponent can respond to this trigger."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Lembas's ability to shuffle back into your deck is a triggered ability. Your opponent can respond to this trigger."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Basilisk gate is an activated ability that can target any creature on the board. If you opponent has a Standard Bearer in play, you have to target the Standard Bearer."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"Basilisk gate IS SORCERY SPEED! So you can't respond to Lightning bolt removal by activating another Basilisk gate."},{"attributes":{"list":"bullet"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\n \nSideboard! [Updated 20-02-2024]\nOrder of the decks are sorted by most played on mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pauper as per the last updated date.\n\nFelix VS Burn\nLAUGHS IN LIFELINK\nFelix plays as a control deck\nPre-board Sacrifice your Lembas to gain 3 life. Hit them once for 5 lifelink and they won't be winning the game anymore. Very favoured matchup.\nThey run sideboard in Relic of Progenitus. That one sucks. Remove it with Duress the rest of the gameplan stays the same. Newer builds of mono Red tend to be more creature focussed and swing with 2 or less powered creatures. A well times Drown in Sorrow will set them back extremely far. From here Breathless Knight should swing the game in your favour 1 lifelink at the time. \nIn\n4x Duress\n2x Drown in Sorrow\nOut\n2x Shelob’s Ambush\n2x Chainer's Edict\n2x Raffine's Informant\n\n\nFelix VS Glitters\nFelix plays as a control deck.\nPre-board favours Glitters. They have crazy starts that will win on turn 3. Kill the creature carrying the Glitters and the lifelink on Breathless Knight should stabilize the game for you before pulling you ahead. The 1 off Dawnbringer Cleric is great here to remove an All that Glitters. Gearseeker Serpent can be scary if you don’t have a Breathless Knight setup to regain more. Focus Cast down on the creature carrying the All that Glitters or Gearseeker Serpent.\nAfter sideboard. Protect the president! As long as Standard Bearer is on the battlefield their crazy double Glitters Ornithopter can't hurt you anymore. They play a bunch of tiny expendable creatures so Chainer's edict is out. They probably run Relic of Progenitus might not be bad to put in as it also hits All that Glitters. (More testing needed)\nIn (On the play)\n3x Standard Bearer\n3x Duress\nIn (On the Draw)\n4x Standard Bearer\n2x Duress\nOut\n2x Chainer's Edicts\n2x Golden Egg\n2x Recomission\n\n \nFelix VS UB Terror (control) \nFelix plays as an Aggro deck.\nPre-board is a favourable matchup as Felix is great at blocking large snakes for turns and turns on end.\nUB Terror is a control deck so your goal should be to put pressure on them early and often.\nUB Terror thrives on the fact that Snuff Out is such a great removal spell. Which most of our important threats dodge as they are black. Brute can still be hit.\nThey generally play to little creatures so our interaction should always be able to deal with all their creatures. Their interaction usually sucks against our deck. Think about what spell is okay to have countered while playing the game. With Shelob’s Ambush on a Gorehound we can basically always trade 2 for 1 against 2 big snakes.\nPost sideboard they tend to have little graveyard interaction so Duress is less needed in this matchup. They might bring in a Murmuring Mystic to make our life very annoying as the flow of birds that get in our way can be overwhelming. Keep their graveyard sorta clean and don’t get surprised by 4 mana 20 power.\nIn\n3x Nihil Spellbomb\n(2x Duress)\nOut\n1x Danwbringer Cleric\n2x Recommission\n(1x Cast down)\n(1x Chainer’s Edict)\n\n\nFelix VS Gardens\nFelix plays as a midrange deck\nOn average 15+ removal spells. My lord this is a match to slug through.\nThey run very little creatures so once they introduce the Monarch/Initiative we can probably take it pretty easy with our evasive threats.\nGet on the board early. Keep attacking them safely (so don’t attack if they have obvious good blocks or get your bluffing face on). Cast down the Avenging Hunter and Troll of Khazad-dûm to keep your life total safer. \nOnce we have stolen their Monarch/Initiative we should have a better time to protect it then they have taking it back. Stop them from winning the game with the broken mechanic that is Initiative and prepare to defend it to win the game by being carried by how broken the mechanic is. Duress out graveyard hate and Drown in Sorrow’s so they’ll always have to 1 for 1 with you. Which most of the times is not a 1 for 1.\n[More testing needed]\nIn\n4x Duress \nOut\n1x Dawnbringer Cleric\n2x Golden Egg\n1x Chainer’s Edict\n\n\n \nFelix VS U(B) Faeries\nFelix plays as a control deck.\nPre-board I feel like this matchup should be favorable for us as our threats are almost always bigger than their faeries. [Disclaimer, I haven't played this matchup yet]\nSideboard U Faeries wins by swarming the board with 1/1 flying creatures. A well times Drown in Sorrow will set them back to the stone ages. Lifelink on Breathless Knight will keep you in the game forever. Lower down their resources by executing your general gameplan and swing for big lifelink when you find an opening.\nThe counter on Spellstutter Sprite is an ETB trigger. If you remove a Faerie so their Faeries are less than the Mana Value of the spell they want to resolve, the counter fails. [More playtesting Needed]\nMono U is probably harder to deal with as UB as UB Faeries (just like UB Terror) relies on Snuff Out which misses all out great threats.\nIn\n2x Drown in Sorrow\n3x Duress\nOut\n2x Chainer's Edicts\n2x Golden Egg\n1x Dawnbringer Cleric\n\nFelix VS Grixis Affinity\nFelix plays as a midrange/control deck.\nGET RID OF MAKESHIT MUNITIONS! Or run them out of game pieces to use it you should be favoured. Their deck runs some interaction that we generally can work around. Kenku Artificer making a land a creature is kinda annoying. Once late game comes around and we can loop Felix with a knight on the field a few times we should basically always win.\nSideboard. Like stated above. Makeshift Munitions will ruin our day any time. Use Duress to get rid of it if you can. Or get rid of the potential Graveyard hate they might put in ( a lot of lists don’t run Relic so the get rid of their draw spells)\nIn\n4x Duress\nOut\n2x Recommission\n2x Golden Egg\n\nFelix VS Boros Synthesizer\nFelix plays as a Midrange/Control deck.\nGET RID OF MAKESHIT MUNITIONS! Or Journey to Nowhere. Some lists run Relic of Progenitus main deck. This is probably one od the worse matchups to play against. A lot of interaction. Potential to Swarm the board with little creatures. Grind is the name of the game. Lifelink should help get us into the late game.\nSideboard. We know what will hurt us. Let’s get rid of those as much as possible. Duress is for Makeshift Munitions, Journey to Nowhere and Relic of Progenitus. If they don’t have those. The namesake card of the deck might be a good hit too.\nIn\n4x Duress\n2x Drown in Sorrow\nOut\n2x Chainer’s Edict\n2x Shelob’s Ambush\n2x Golden Egg\n\nMORE MATCHUPS COMMING!\n"}]}
