{"ops":[{"insert":"The tale of my journeys with the elves is a long one, going back to my earliest days of Magic. \n\nI knew I wanted to play the game with some friends, and in order to learn, I needed a deck. Going to my local hobby store, I went through all the pre-cons, looking at my various options and trying to find a deck that was mono-green. I had two options: Painflow, from Judgement, and Elvish Rage from Legions. I went back and forth trying to determine which one to get, and while the elves seemed tempting, the classic theme deck box art on Painflow won out. I won't go into the details about the Painflow deck here, but the elves sat in the back of my mind as something that I wanted to explore and build a deck around...yet nothing was really bringing them to the forefront of my early deck days (especially focusing in Odyssey, who had forsaken the elves for nanutko, druids, and squirrels). Getting the 8th Edition Starter Set and getting an amazing foiled Elvish Champion didn't help either...I knew I needed to find a home for that guy.\n\nA few years later, Lorwyn was getting released, and the elves had branched into a new color: black. The original Ravnica block had been a huge high for me in terms of Magic options, to the point that I purchased booster packs from that set whenever I could, forgoing any other set. Not a lot of Time Spiral for me, Ravnica was where it was at. I loved the aesthetic of the Golgari elves, but for some reason, with my limited funds, I didn't want to invest in Lorwyn elves. I picked up a few things on occasion, as Wren's Run Vaniqusher felt pretty epic with Deathtouch, along with Elvish Ambush and Eyeblight's Ending. Despite having options, it just wasn't something that spoke to me.\n\nThe next big jump was picking up the Commander 2014 mono-G precon with Freyalise. I considered the deck to have a ton of good things to help a green player out (remember, I had started with Painflow!), and the fact that it had lots of elves seemed like a good way to catch me up. Priest of Titania, Ezuri, and all sorts of fun treasures from Lorwyn like Imperious Perfect and Immaculate Magistrate (who was a precon rare from the elf precon at the time). Despite picking up that deck, building elves STILL didn't seem like what I wanted to do, especially because I wasn't feeling the whole Elfball nonsense. I needed something different.\n\nShortly after, Origins dropped and with it, more BG elves! I spent my Origins pre-release trying to trade people for playsets of all the elves that were coming into Standard, then went home and grabbed my playset of Llanowar Wastes to build a Standard deck (I would occasionally play Friday Night Magic, but never really had anything worth playing). Elves really didn't do much in Standard, so it fell by the wayside, but it was still nice to have some casual elven fun.\n\nThe original Commander set also had a BG Elf theme, which made me think I would find exactly what I wanted; however, even with some new awesome fun cards, nothing was really clicking with me.\n\nKaldheim brought forth the new dark elves, returning to the BG roots. Here, I said to myself, I would find my Commander, and I was correct....almost. Our playgroup wanted to try a casual commander precon league, where we each bought a precon and slowly made budget edits. The BG elf deck with Lathril seemed like the perfect fit, and despite the league never really taking off, the opportunity to play elves and Lathril seemed awesome.....until I felt like she was somewhat stagnant and overly-popular. In addition, my custom pile of favorite BG elves and other cards I wanted seemed to be constantly battling with others in the deck. In addition, she had no Showcase Kaldheim frame!!! Insult to injury!\n\nEnter Tyvar the Bellicose! When I first saw him, I had to study the card a few times to double check if this was the BG Elf Commander I had been waiting for. If anything, I had ignored most of the second ability because giving all my attacking Elves deathtouch was exactly what I wanted! I want to throw my elves into combat and make stuff happen. On top of it all, he had an amazing Kaldheim showcase art. Check and check!\n\nThe deck itself runs a lot of the \"classic\" green elves many have come to know and love: Priest of Titania, Elvish Champion, Imperious Perfect, Llanowar Elves, etc, but there are also a ton of unique choices that speak to my storied history of elven lore. Tribal Forcemage and Elvish Soultiller were the two rares from the Elvish Rage deck, and I spent many a time daydreaming about playing them, hence the home here. The Forcemage combos nicely with Tyvar, turning my elves into a large attacking Deathtouch and Trampling force. Bonus points if you make a friend upset when they realize you only need to deal 1 damage to something in order to smash face. My Gilt-Leaf Winnower has the prerelease date stamped on it, and marked the introduction of Menace. Nightshare Harvester punishes those that want to ramp.\n\nThere's a number of cards that give Trample, as that will make our Elves most effective, In addition, I wanted some reasons to tap various Elves for mana in the late game to take advantage of Tyvar's second ability. Viridian Lorebearers is another forgotten card that I remember utilizing when Fifth Dawn was out and I played against a ton of Equipment. These days, I expect it to be a nice pump with the Treasures that float around. The more things change, the more they stay the same.\n"}]}
