{"ops":[{"insert":"Orzhov Lifegain Combo is back on the menu everyone, and with Amalia we can run a Vampire Typal sub-theme and be very close to the ground.\n\nIf at all possible, we want to have Amalia out on the field all the time. Her Ward ability kind of helps with that... but we also run Swiftfoot Boots, Etchings of the Chosen and a bunch of boardwide indestructible spells to protect her from our opponents and the rest of our creatures from her.\n\nOnce Amalia is on the field and protected, hopefully by turn 2 or 3, we want to gain life in as many discrete increments as possible. This allows us to draw lands, select which nonland cards we want to draw and put a ton of counters on Amalia. To this end, we run a bunch of otherwise mediocre lifegain cards and several drain cards.\n\nFrom there, Amalia starts to cause problems on purpose for our opponents. Her boardwipe at 20 power effect is a threat... eventually, but so is commander damage and just plain damage. We run Rogue's Passage and Key to the City to enable commander damage wins - especially if for some reason we don't trigger her board wipe ability. We also run Rite of Consumption and Essence Harvest to win through normal damage if for some reason we cannot attack or to take out multiple opponents in one turn.\n\nThis Voltron plan is supplemented by the Vampire Typal sub-theme; giving us mana fixing, card draw, +1/+1 Counter shenanigans, anthems, theft and more drain. Notably, Blade of the Bloodchief - and also technically Tarrian's Soulcleaver - really ramps up Amalia's counter accumulation, but they cannot trigger her boardwipe, meaning we have to stop them at 18/18 or 19/19 if we can to gain life and explore through her own effect.\n\nBut that is all just the surface level goals and support structure. With a 2 MV Commander, an average MV of 2.58 and our normal top end being MV 5, I can - hopefully - get away with my normally questionable habit of cutting lands and ramp pieces to make room for other cards. I am only running 34 lands and 13 ramp pieces, totally 47-ish mana generators. \n\nWe also run a little removal-lite, partly because Amalia is technically a boardwipe and partly because we are a creature heavy deck. my usual Orzhov suite of Feed the Swarm, Generous Gift and newcomer Stroke of Midnight make an appearance, as do a few Deathtouch Vampires. Boardwipe wise, we have Mandate of Abaddon and Deadly Vanity which mimic the end result of Amalia's effects at slightly faster rates.\n\nOur only graveyard hate card is Bojuka Bog, but hopefully it will show up often thanks to Amalia.\n\nWe run a suite of 15 draw cards including Amalia, all of which except Fountain of Renewal are repeatable. A lot of our draw cards are also lands, and they are there to ensure we can always do something with our mana, even if that thing is finding something to do next turn.\n\nIn addition to our above mentioned combos and finishers, we also have Aetherflux Reservoir and Malakir Bloodwitch which we can use to kill an opponent in the right circumstances.\n\nWe only have two pieces of recursion - Redemption Choir and Sorin - but they are both repeatable... if fragile.\n\nOverall, I am really excited about Amalia as a commander in general and this build in particular. I am going to keep editing it and improving upon it as I test the build.\n"}]}
