Description
{"ops":[{"insert":"\nPrimer\nThis is not a Cedh deck. It will take time to learn the play patterns of, and is complex. But it is also a very resiliant and powerful deck I enjoy to play, but don't very often given the power level of my pod and the long turns this deck can take. If you give it a go, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you don't get a migraine from how many decisions and triggers it will force you to make.\n\nThis is a combo deck centered around casting a big Torment of hailfire or Exsanguinate. The set up for casting that spell consists of 2 cards Squandered Resources and Rain of Filth. With the commander in play, and either of these cards in addition to an effect such as Splendid Reclamation, adding effects like Tireless Provisioner or Lotus Cobra make it very easy for you to amass a tremendous amount of mana for that massive hailfire.\n\nOften the combo plays out in some manner similar to this:\n\nHave some number of lands in play (Assuming you have not set up a Splendid Reclamation play already, a safe amount to combo with is probably around 7, which is not a hard ask, even around turn 4-5 if you drew a decent hand) and The Gitrog Monster on the battle field. (if you have all the pieces already, the commander being in play is optional, as it only allows you to start comboing without all the pieces already assembled, because it is very likely you will draw into them in the process of performing the combo.)\nWait to have an effect like Rain of Filth, or Splendid Reclamation. Usually only one or the other is required, if the effect you have is a Splendid Reclamation type effect, a land sacrificing effect like Zuran orb or a discard outlet like Noose Constrictor are needed as well.\nYou play out the combo as if you have all the pieces already, this is because while doing the combo itself you will draw a lot of cards from your commander. Just continuing to sac lands, draw cards, and return those lands to the battlefield via whatever means.\nSacing the lands to effects like Rain of Filth just allows you to get mana directly due to sacing the land, other landfall effects will trigger during this mess of a step. Cards that are especially important to look at in the middle of this combo include: Ob Nixilis, The Fallen, Titania, Nature's Force, Field of the Dead, Lotus Cobra, and Tireless Provisioner. Ob Nixilis can result in kills without even needing to cast any spells, just from the land etbs. Titania and Field of the Dead can result in a massive board of attackers, while those may not be usable this turn, if anyone survives the turn, it will be a lot to ask of them to deal with in the aftermath. The other two accelerate the speed at which you amass mana for the big x spell you intend to cast at the end of this.\nReasonably, you should only expect to cycle through this loop of sacing everything and returning it all once, maybe twice, by the time you're through that, you should have enough mana to bomb everyone else.\nIf all the opponents have not died by this point:\n\nIf you have Ob Nixilis still in play at this point, and Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord, you can sac the presumably massive Ob Nixilis to him a drain everyone.\nThere are also some big eldrazi you can make use of for the tried and true face bashing approach.\nApart from this primary gameplan, there are many synergy pieces and landfall based engines that can take advantage of these cards anyway. You can default back into a synergistic midrange landfall deck.\n\nMore commander focused cards include things like Skirge Familiar, as The Gitrog Monster does not care about what zone the land entering the graveyard originated from, so you can discard lands to these types of effects and gain both their benefit as well as card draw from the commander. Then those lands are not lost either, as you can play them from the graveyard using the effect of 4 or so different cards, the best of them being Crucible of Worlds, or they wind up feeding a massive Splendid Reclamation type effect.\n\nThere is also an interaction between the commander and Dakmor Salvage, the dredge ability can be done instead of drawing a card, so it will mill over two cards, and a land may be contained within giving another draw, but if you have any discard effect, this will allow you to mill out your entire deck with these two in play.\n\nFirst you have Dakmor Salvage in your graveyard, The Gitrog Monster , and a card such as Noose Constrictor in play\nThen you draw a card (when this happens is irrelevant, and can be done in the middle of your endstep as well) and choose to activate the dredge ability, milling 2 cards from your deck and returning Dakmor Salvage to your hand. The cards milled over may include a land, giving an additional draw trigger from your commander.\nThen if you discard Dakmor Salvage, this process can be repeated. This can be done during your endstep (as during the cleanup step, if you discard the land then draw a card from The Gitrog Monster's trigger, you will have to discard down to hand size again.) if you want, but is risky and may lead you to draw from an empty library without proper caution being used. (This interaction is very similar to that of Underrealm lich )\nDuring your clean up step you discard down to hand size, if you discard a land during this phase, it can trigger The Gitrog Monster causing you to draw a card, this is one of the few interactions that allows you to take game actions during the cleanup step.\n\n"}]}
