Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"Want a storm deck that doesn't look for reservoir and win? Looking for some of those free-wheeling Golos Goodstuff vibes but still want to try and somewhat maintain your self-respect as a Magic player? Try Timmystorm!\n\nJadzi Timmystorm is a storm deck looking not to control the game until its window of opportunity arises, nor one looking for an opportunity to combo off. Instead, Jadzi is looking to parley the rewards she gets from spellslinging from an explosive game-winning payoff to lots of big, stompy creatures. Once online, Jadzi's trigger is easy to satisfy two to four times from a single spell, and the addition of green instead of red or black not only gives us a suite of huge, razor-toothed beasties to cheat in, but recursion to help us double up on our storm spells and a great amount of topdeck manipulation to ensure we keep the chain going.\n\nNoxious revival is a free Jadzi trigger as well as a means to set up our next one after we've shot one of our storm payoffs, or if one of our giants has hit the bin, and reclaim and Once and Future do the same at the cost of one and four mana respectively. We also have the old standbys of regrowth and eternal witness should we run out of casting fuel in our hand. \n\nAs for our payoffs and threats, I wanted to shy away from the usual extra turns and such Simic big mana-type decks usually arrive at for their top end. We'll be monopolizing enough time as is, and I think it's more fun for an opponent to behold a cascading fusillade of big bodies than how many minutes the person sitting at the other end of the table can steal from them. As such, much like we only want to be running the most efficient instants and sorceries, we're looking for nothing but the biggest and dumbest to pseudo-polymorph them into. Apex Devastator gives us further Jadzi fuel as well as being able to hit some of our other fatties. Thorn Mammoth turns all of our creature payoffs into pseudo-removal, while Apex Altisaur, on top of being a big swingin' dick creature, can wipe an opponent's board clean. The new Tarrasque and Kogla, the Titan Ape help us pick off pesky blockers, and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger vaporizes two problem permanents (on cast!) As for threats that go (somewhat) beyond large numbers, Rampaging Baloths gives us a 4/4 for every Jadzi trigger we \"whiff,\" Torrential Gearhulk can give us a second wind on our storm of Magecraft triggers on a beefy 5/6 body, and Managorger Hydra can trade in our solitaire-ing for a massive combat-based threat, which is what this deck is all about.\n\nFor board wipe insurance, we're also running a collection of indestructible and/or persistent threats to make sure our work isn't all for naught. Stonehoof Chieftain, in addition to being indestructible, negates fear of combat trades and makes it so our board is all but impossible to chump, Worldspine Wurm leaves behind mementoes after he bites the dust, as well as shuffling back into our library for Jadzi to hit at a later time, and the aforemention Ulamog is sure to stick around to wreak havok barring a swords, anguished unmaking, or similar.\n\nOn the support/engine side, we're running many of the storm standbys. Snapcaster and Mission Briefing can provide a second wave of magecraft triggers for low mana investment. Mystic Sanctuary provides a similar purpose, and can be hit off of Jadzi, as well as fetched-for by the three island-fetchers we run. In a similar realm of topdeck manipulation, we're running Sylvan Library for some early game card advantage and mid-to-late game sifting. Jace, the Mind-Sculptor's brainstorm on-command can yield explosive results with our commander, and Oracle of Mul Daya can sift unwanted lands off the top as well as help us ramp into our pricey commander.\n\nWinning: Short of making your opponents stare in awe/disgust at your gluttonous Simic excess, the deck sports more casual methods of winning. Casting and Flashing back Hunting Pack with a high enough storm count (easier than one would think) can put a game-winning amount of power on board. Spell-morphing into Tidespout Tyrant in the middle of one of Jadzi's tempests is often a backbreaking, and has the potential to throw a pod of three opponents back to the stone age at once. Our large-and-in-charge troupe of creature payoffs also sport a surprising amount of evasion, most notably flying and trample, making an unanswered board at the end of a good turn a lethal ticking clock on its own. A storm deck that wins through combat, fancy that.\n\nCons: As with any storm or UG deck, your ability to play it is going to depend on the patience of your playgroup and a certain amount of luck. Simic's lack of haste also means that any successful turn is just begging for a board wipe, and although our commander has ramp built in, at eight mana, recasting her to get our engine going again is a significant tempo hit. Which brings us to the elephant in the room: Jadzi herself is a high priority target. While the deck sports enough ramp to deploy her on turns 4-6 many games, the sheer value she provides and ceiling for abuse means she'll typically be first in the table's crosshairs. This is doubly troublesome since the proactive nature of the deck means that interaction is necessarily limited despite the colors being excellent at it. There's also the native issue big-spell decks have of fading novelty. Seeing the fireworks go off will undoubtedly be fun the first few times, and while the stack trickery inherent in Magecraft provides a fun brain teaser, you'll eventually solve the most optimal lines or get blown out in the process.\n\nDespite everything, I like this deck just as an amalgam of commander's \"smartest\" and \"dumbest\" archetypes. It may not be worth dropping the necessary coin on over the long haul, but all your spells having slot machines attached to them is some fun I can get behind, for a while.\n"}]}
