Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"Losheel is the about the most reigned-in commander you could possibly conceive, having not only the typical mono-white draw restriction of shutting off after a single trigger, but also the \"one or more\" clause, meaning a legion of thoptors created at the same time will only draw us one measly card. This made him (her?) the perfect project to venture outside of my wheelhouse. Artifacts are generally not my skill set in commander, nor (mea culpa) is drawing less than two cards per turn. With these restrictions in mind, I immediately set my blue player mind to work on what I could possibly do to expand my horizons into territory which I don't typically venture. The answer I came up with was...being rewarded with card advantage for lots of instant-speed actions. Turns out you can take the player out of the color but not vice-versa, as the adage goes.\n\nAnyway, the issue is simple: Losheel only triggers once each turn and only off creatures, but we want our cards god damn it! So we need to find ways to get creative and produce bodies on our opponents' turns as well as our own. Flash-enabler Shimmer Myr and Vedalken Orrery will go a long way, but we can't always rely on them. As such, we have cards like Master Trinketeer, which produce instant-speed artifact creatures for a...less than ideal... price, but you work with what you got. The easier way, though, is to rely on instants like Cloudshift and Ephemerate (the latter of which is two triggers for the price of one) or permanents like Eldrazi Displacer to blink out our existent bodies every turn for value. These provide card draw with Losheel, but also synergize with valuable ETB's like Angel of Invention and Skyscanner. \n\nIt should be noted I'm not a combo player at heart, truth-be-told so the win conditions here are simpler than all of our instant-speed artifact machinations would lead one to believe. As such, victory for the deck tends to be board-based with creatures whose power scales with the number of artifacts we control, and ways to protect them. Teferi's Protection, Flawless Maneuver, and the ever-trusty Darksteel Forge are here to avoid blowouts, while a well-timed Akroma's Will, Rebec on a board of diversely-costed artifacts, or the use-ful-yet-underused Glaring Spotlight can seal the deal. And when that fails, though, there's always the faithful Karn/Mycosynth lock. \n\nAlthough our wins are combat-based much of the time, the deck does run hate pieces to keep more degenerate strategies at bay. Ethersworn Canonist and Lodestone Golem hinder our opponents' turns while leaving our game plan virtually unmolested. Meanwhile, good-stuffy tax effects like Smothering Tithe and Monologue tax are useful with the amount of cards we'll be drawing, but also easily add to our artifact count for effects that care about it. And though slow, Hope of Ghirapur is a cheap trigger on our commander on top of being recoverable by multiple means. \n\nWe want a high density of artifact creatures, but being in white, the options for effective ramp are heavily-limited, so the average artifact creature the deck is looking to resolve at sorcery speed is around the 1-to-3 drop range, which means cost reduction like Foundry Inspector and Ugin the Ineffable, as well as conditional \"mana doublers\" like forsaken monument accelerate the deck a great deal the moment they drop. Once our engine has found a foothold, it's easy to close out the game activating Digsite Engineer (included in the precon) multiple times a turn for a troublesome board in a short period of time.\n\nWhile not the most competitive build, I think Losheel issues a fun challenge for people looking to get their hands on a green or blue-tinged value engine you have to work for. It probably wouldn't have killed them to shave a clause or five off, but I would be lying if I said I didn't have fun scouring Gatherer and Scryfall for \"Activate: Create a...\" for an hour straight on a Sunday night.\n"}]}
