Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"BRRRRR BRBRBRRR BRRRRRR *SCIRRRRRRRRRRRRRR*\n\nI really like rats and vehicles. Greasefang just makes sense. This is a fun deck I build using cards my older brother gave to me along with buying a couple of key vehicles. This deck attempts to take advantage of greasefang's mechanics to make explosive early game plays(ramping with priest of yaw or soldevi initiate, repeated tutors with cynical loner) in an attampt to take controll of the board while everyone else is still getting on their feet, later searching for specific cards that let you create a consistent board(mickalaus, far traveler, conjurer's closet, etc). While I only play in a premade group with friends, this deck has consistently overtaken decks like Edgar Marakov that my friends use, who I'm told is pretty good\n\nWhile I am relaively new to Magic as a whole, I will attempt to explain the goals and reasoning behind most of my cards\n\nGOAL OF THE GREASEFANG\nIn order to take advantage of Greasefang's mechanics to their full extent, you need \n a way to put cards in the graveyard so greasefang's ability can trigger "},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":" A way to keep those cards in the graveyard so greasefang can reanimate consitantly"},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"a way to advance your board state so that greasefang doesn't fall behind"},{"attributes":{"list":"ordered"},"insert":"\n"},{"insert":"\nthe first goal can be done in a mulitude of ways. Discard triggers like key to the city and ravenous imp let you take vehicles in your hand and throw them in the graveyard. Graveyard tutors do the same. Finally theres the fact that you discard at having more than seven cards. Getting Orzhov Bascillica in your starting hand lets you bounce a land back turn two and therefore forces a discard, while cards like morbid opportunity or Braids, Arisen Nightmare gives you the potential to overdraw cards. All in all, you have at least Ten consistent ways to discard cards before turn 4, and a few more extra ways to discard in specific circumstances\n\nthe second goal is the easiest to get. Discard options are consistent ways to repeatedly get the thing summoned back, fufull your early game goals, and give you protection from graveyard exile since you can activate many discard effects whenever you want to. Sacrificing give you a multitude of consistant or single use options, but all of them offer greater rewards compared to discarding. Soldevi Initiate and Priest of Yawgamoth give you a crap ton of black mana, Ozwald Fiddlebender lets you turn a temporary vehicle into a permanent artifact that's more powerful, and Braids offers potential removal or card draw. However, sacrificing leaves you open to getting your graveyard exiled, so its a touch riskier\n\nAdvancing your board state is the most important part, and theres several options to do it in this in the game. \n\n\tBlink: getting a way to have your vehicles leave and re-enter the battlefield is very powerful and lets you advance your board state and reanimate new things.\n \t\t\tConjurers closet is an artifact that can be tutored with ozwald or reanimated with a Salvation engine, but costs a lot to summon upfront. \n\t\t\tSeveral enchantments like Teleportation field(artifacts and creatures) and Far Traveler(tapped cratures) also let you exile but must be casted upfront. I recommend Far traveler, since its cheaper and its drawbacks dont have much affect on us. We want to be swinging with our vehicles and if Greasefang is dead or in the command zone, we care a lot less about blinking creatures as we no longer have a reason to blink most of them. \n\t\t\tWe also have Mickalaus, The Unhallowed, who gives all our non-humans, AKA our vehicles undying(this means if they enter the graveyard with no +1 counters, they come back to the battlefield with one) which lets us sacrifice vehicles and still keep them. You can also pair this with the Human Survivor who lets us move counters off of creatures when they die (unfortunately hes a human though so no loop)\n\n\tRepeated reanimation: Salvation engine is a complete game changer for this deck, you go from having one vehicle pop in every turn to snowballing your graveyard onto the battlefield, all while being unkillable with 10 toughness and buffing your artifact creatures by 2. you also have the Bird who reanimates creatures on historic spells, and the kamigawa guy who sacs artifacts for creatures\n\n\tMill: repeatedly getting things on the board is cool but you need to keep your graveyard filled with tasty vehicles to keep it going. Necron monolith is an unkillable vehicle that mills and makes tokens, Ripples of undeath mills and gives us a potential card draw for 1, and Cynical Loner repeatedly throws whatever you want in the graveyard, and your draw/discard effects let you draw your deck faster to find the right cards to discard\n\n\tResonation: Strionic Resonator lets you double up on trigger effects. Double greasefang triggers, Double Salvation Engine Triggers, Double Braids Triggers. It costs 2 to use every turn which adds up with your other mana costs every turn but I think its worth it\n\nBoardwipes/removal: this sounds counterintuitive but due to the nature of greasefang's synergies, a good option for advancing the board is to just be ahead of everyone else, and you have a lot of ways to go through with this. First is one sided boarwipes. Austere command/merciless eviction can take out high cost creatures and enchantments, and Round up takes out everything 4 toughness or higher. We don't care much about enchantments, and our only 4 cost creature or 4+ toughness creature is Mickalaus. this lets you rip out big game changing creatures and threats that other people are playing, and opens up opportunities for us to keep our whole board before crewing our creatures and swinging. \nsome others to note are split up, Sac all but 1 effects and indestrucible. Split up lets you take advantage of a passive or aggressive boards and keep all your creatures by either creing and attacking with vehicles, or by playing it and then swinging. Sac all but one effects like The Eternal Wanderer gives you a blink trigger but also makes sure that you're always in an advantageous position compared to everyone else in creatures, and Tragic arrogance lets you get through hexproof but still get controll over how the board will look. Indestructablility is the final option. there are plenty of White or Black cards who act as bodies to crew but still survive boarwipes unless they exile, may synergize with greasefangs needed mechanics, like discarding a card to gain indestructible, or being a god that needs to sacrifice in order to attack. if you do plan on this option, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND ADDING DARING FIENDBONDER IF YOU ARE DOING THIS, as giving Greasefang Indestructable is a massive boon. other options to add are eagle of deliverance and season of the burrow, and you can look into creatures that enter/give themselves indestructable counters, and saccing/tranferring them onto greasefang with Reluctant Role Model, but that is Jank.\n\nWHAT VEHICLES TO DRIVE\nI reccomend having a 1:2 - 1:3 ratio of ETB Vehicle to attack trigger vehicles. Some Vehicles have nice ETB effects we can blink but we mostly want a board state that oppresses our foes as we attack.\nBLINK\n demonic junker is great since it destroys enemy creatures and lets us sac if we want to. Affinity usually doesn;t come into play much and you end up reanimating, but is great lategame and can be sac'ed into parhelion: people think its fine and then you stat flickering it\nSurgehacker can be both a creature and a planeswalker removal as long as you have 1 or 2 other vehicles on the board, and is cheap enough to hardcast if you want to.\nKnight Paladin: expensive cause limited, low stats/effects for a 5 cost vehicle, and generates aggro cause of it's entering effect. This may be a hot take but I think its a pitfall trap\nunidentified Hovership - I love this thing, takes out key cogs in reanimator decks along with 80% of commanders, awesome buget removal and manifest dread has the potential to take out key cards in deck and remove ETB effects of any creatures they flip over.\nNautiloid ship: Graveyard exile/ reanimation, and an evasive beater. 10/10, if you cant afford this get a hurst and youll still be golden. Has to hit to reanimate though. Makes salt but is too good to pass up\nSkysoveregn: good blink vehicle and when reanimated with greasefang lets you double up on it's triggers and deal 6 damage, 9 if you blink it afterwards\nDermotaxi: also awesome card, but its better used in other vehicle decks\nThunderHawk Gunship: comes pre crewed and gives everything flying, expensive though if you dont proxy\nCarrion Cruiser: Light mill and forces you to take a creature/vehicle from the graveyard to your hand. Good mid/late game or if you have milled already, or if you want to bring back a creature who died\nMysterious Limosine: Awesome if you want to do a blink deck\nDetention Chariot: Evasive beater with a cheap cycling effect. its pretty good and takes out key creatures, even if temporarily\nForeboding Steamboat: neat but usually ends up screwing you over most of the time if played\nBazar Barge: Draw a card is fine for budget decks but there are still better ways to draw.\nRibskiff: genuinely bazar but better, still pretty meh\nNight Scythe: provides its own crewer so not that great for grease id say\nATTACK/PASSIVE\nSalvation engine: Best card in your deck, literally changes the way you play greasefang in commander. can easily be tutored into with ozwald and buffs your artifact creatures aka vehicles\nNecron Monolith: if you decide to buy/proxy an expensive vehicle it should be this, nonlegendary card that that mills, doesnt die, and can make bodies\nParhelion II: I don't think I need to explain why this should probably be in your deck, but I will say You will have more fun if you don't graveyard tutor into it every game\nSmuggler's Buggy: free card, gambling, and if you get this early game most people wont block it\nHamsphere: Tokens for sac, ramping removal on every attack, able to ping players, nice\nMighty Servant of Leuk-o: awesome early game card draw to get starded. all you need is one other creature besides greasefang and 1/2 drops are great for this deck\ncybership: evasive, hits like a truck, and generates crew on hit, not my favorite cause it also causes targeting though, people like their cards. mostly used as a sac for ozwald to get something better, or is hardcasted from Yawgomoth/Soldevi\nPrydwyn: nice lategame/midgame vehicle to hardcast, makes tokens who benefit from artifacts entering whenever a nontoken artifact enters\nMecktitan Core: Funny Card that usually end up lowering your board state, but I still recommend it for budet decks cause it's awesome and you can use tokens from cybership/imotehk/others to make it\nImperial Recovery Unit: Honestly I don't reccomend this. recursion but doesn't bring greasefang back if she dies, I barely get hits with this and when I do they don't matter. just get a sun titan and fuck your mana curve\nThundersteel colussus. Great card to hardcast during the lategame, low crew and has trample. Gets overtaken by other 7 costs as your budget goes up but still good\nMukotai Soulripper: I don't reccomend this unless you're making a ton of dinky tokens or have a lot of ETB vehicles\nConquerer's galleon: This SHOULD be good. ramp, card draw/discard, recursion. I just find it does nothing great and everything mediocre. too expensive for ramp, card draw/discard, or recursion. take a solemn simulacrum over this\nUnliscensed Hearse: Awesome card, and provides graveyard hate\nFleetwheel Cruiser: this is pretty bad for grasefang, she is meant to crew whatever she reanimates. this is a better card for Rip, Spawn Hunter or a normal Vehicle deck\nDreadmobile: Mukotai Soulripper But better. Don't Care if you have to pay one for the +1 counter, offers cheap and consistent sac and evasion. still pretty meh\nRaiders Carve: decent ramp opportunity, kinda sqishy though. I love gambling\nlocomotive: I keep going back and fourth with this one. Its great \"ramp\" opportunity but I find myself only ever crewing it with one. Feels Better for Magda\nMidnight crusaider shuttle: good card but generates salt. beware\novalchase dragster: Actually great card, feels awsome to use and is great to hardcast\nPeacewalker: your creatures will be boardwiped eventually and when they do this thing will save you\nWeatherlight: great card draw engine\nSmugglers Copter: card draw and discard, great early game tool to get started\nAreal Surveyor: its okay, I find myself not getting a lot of hits with it tough\nReaver Titan: theres a reason this thing is over $30 right now, its crazy good, but also needs a good discard engine or to be hardcasted from yaw\nValor's Flagship: lets you cycle it and offers evasive lifegain, good if you're using a lot of life drain stuff\n\nCREWERS YOU SHOULD TAKE\n\nCREWERS YOU SHOULDNT EDHREC IS BOGUS\nSram, you wanna reanimate vehicles not cast them, not a lotta auras work for you and equipment is useless\nLosheel: vehicles enter as artifacts not creatures so no draw for you, also we like our vehicles dying\nAeronaut admiral: most good vehicle fly already, and this costs 4, if you want a specific vehicle to have flying sac your role model to give it a counter or take the aetherdrift Kor\nSanwell: indestructible on attack is good but 90% of the time his passive procs you won't be able to pay for the vehicle/AC\nArmix: Okay this one's pretty decent actually if your cycling between two vehicles, good removal but doesn't proc fast enough for grease to trigger if you only have 1\nRebecc: BEWARE OF HER PASSIVE, protection from mana costs apply to you too but its good for the endgame. if you have a mana rock you cant sac vehicles any more. better for a cycling/discard deck, but still has it's uses since it gives protection to boarwipes\ndrumbellower: only untaps your creatures and not your vehicles, you should take lulu the elephant angel instead for 1 more mana\n\nTHINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR\nBlind obedience: counters greasefang\n"}]}
