Description

{"ops":[{"insert":"This is my Dakkon Attack-on deck, and like the name suggests, the gameplan is to get Dakkon out of the command zone and attacking. The deck as a whole is a control/surveil deck, with its win state primarily being a voltron built on Dakkon. It's not too complicated of a deck, can put up threats pretty early in the game, and is generally pretty fun to play.\n\nCommander - The Commander for this one is, as should be no surprise, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dakkon, Shadow Slayer"}},{"insert":". He is what the whole deck was designed around: I liked the full art, I like surveil is a fun mechanic, and he dodges commander tax by getting bigger with every cast as long as I'm hitter my land drops. For the signature spell I choose "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Anchor to Reality"}},{"insert":". Normally I'm not a huge fan of tutors, but conditional tutors or tutors with downsides I enjoy playing a lot more. AtR allows me to kickstart the gameplan as early as turn 4: tutor up "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Luxior, Giada's Gift"}},{"insert":" with AtR, slap it on Dakkon, and swing away. There are various other equipment in the deck that AtR can also tutor for if I need them, and it also works as a sac outlet at the same time if I have something I want to retriever the ETB of with a Dakkon cheat out.\n\nDraw - Because the deck packs so much surveil, I didn't feel the need to include a large variety of card-positive draw, but just a handful to keep the engine running when I need a card or two. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Brainstorm"}},{"insert":" makes it into the deck as a low cost draw that also lets me manipulate what I want in my hand, what I want in my library, and what I want in my graveyard when combined with my various surveil sources. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Discovery // Dispersal"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Notion Rain"}},{"insert":" make it in as some of the basic draw + surveil non-permanent cards, with D//D also being a control option if I need it instead. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Disinformation Campaign"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Darkblade Agent"}},{"insert":" are permanent based draw pieces that can trigger multiple times and have some kind of control/removal stapled onto them as well. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"The Reality Chip"}},{"insert":" also makes it in, not for the ability to see what the top of my deck is, but for the ability to cast stuff after I've surveilled them into the order I need, thus being a form of card advantage. A bonus for it is that it is tutor-able with AtR.\n\nFinisher - The primary finisher in this deck is "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Luxior, Giada's Gift"}},{"insert":". It serves as both a protection piece for Dakkon and a pump piece to make him hit hard. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Blackblade Reforged"}},{"insert":", when combined with Luxior, turns Dakkon into an absolute monstrosity, but can also be attached as needed to other creatures for the win. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Blade of Selves"}},{"insert":" is primary for when the Luxior/Dakkon combo is unavailable for whatever reason and I have to close the game out with some other creature in my deck, but can make for some cheeky plays with Dakkon himself to get multiple ability triggers in a single turn. The final option, when all else fails, is "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Liliana's Talent"}},{"insert":": it makes Dakkon really hard to deal with for creature heavy decks, and directly benefits from Dakkons ability to ETB with huge loyalty.\n\nLand - Land package is spread evenly for the most part between the three colors so as to consistency be able to play Dakkon pretty early. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Obscura Storefront"}},{"insert":" is a nifty mana-fixing piece that can be turned into ramp when combined with "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sun Titan"}},{"insert":". "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Rogue's Passage"}},{"insert":" lets Dakkon get through when blockers become a problem. The six artifact lands keep the deck lean by serving as sac-fodder for AtR, so I don't have to give up other pieces for stuff to sac. Obviously they aren't the preferred targets, but if I need to keep something else on the board, they work just win and can recurred with the previously mention Sun Titan.\n\nRamp - Not super worried about ramp in this deck due the core mechanic of surveil allowing me to filter fairly quickly though my deck. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Solemn Simulacrum"}},{"insert":" makes it in because it also is really good sac-fodder for AtR. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sword of the Animist"}},{"insert":" makes it in because, while I don't necessarily need land ramp, it being able to tutor for what is basically a pump effects for Dakkon and the Blackblade on top of being ramp, and it is tutorable by AtR. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Chromatic Orrery"}},{"insert":" is one of the primary targets to cheat out with Dakkon, as it fixes any color problems I may have and can pay for a second Dakkon cast all on its own. Plus it's just good mana advantage.\n\nRecursion - Despite the fact that this deck likes to load up the graveyard, actually utilizing stuff out of it isn't that big of a part of this deck. However, with the amount that gets thrown in, it does become necessary for some recursive pieces. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sun Titan"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Mission Briefing"}},{"insert":", and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Connive // Concoct"}},{"insert":" serve as some basic recursive pieces with extra utility: Sun Titan is a beater that can ramp and combos well with Blade of Selves; Mission Briefing lets me duplicate any one of my control spells that I've already cast once, helping the deck stay lean and flexible; and C//C can steal any small, pesky creatures with abilities that annoy me. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Blood Operative"}},{"insert":" is a self-recurring piece that can serve as a beater, life gain, and graveyard control, pairing nicely with Blade of Selves. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Enhanced Surveillance"}},{"insert":" ups my filtering ability when I surveil while also being a one time use graveyard protection piece.\n\nRemoval - Since the gameplan is to swing in with Dakkon, it is important that I clear the way for him, protect him, and stop opposing threats that he can't exile with a downtick. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Negate"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Saw It Coming"}},{"insert":", and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sinister Sabotage"}},{"insert":" for the core counterspells I need to proceed with this gameplan. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Obscura Charm"}},{"insert":" can be both spell removal and limited-permanent removal. The recursive portion doesn't generally see much play, as outside of Dakkon there are only three multicolored permanents that can be targeted. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Fracture"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Oblation"}},{"insert":" make up the majority of my permanent removal, with Oblation serving double duty as card draw off of Dakkon when he is going to be destroyed anyway. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Meteor Golem"}},{"insert":" provides me with a repeatable removal piece off of Dakkon. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Thought Erasure"}},{"insert":" serves as some preemptive spell removal for when I need to make sure a piece can land. And finally, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Noxious Gearhulk"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Swords to Plowshares"}},{"insert":" give me two other ways of offing creatures or, in desperate times, offing a Luxior equipped Dakkon or Blackblade equipped creature for some life gain. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Cataclysmic Gearhulk"}},{"insert":" is my mass removal option, and like Noxious Gearhulk and Meteor Golem, can be cheated out with Dakkon. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Single Combat"}},{"insert":" is a great way so stall out creature heavy decks and let me swing in with an equipped Dakkon.\n\nSurveil - Being that surveil is an integral part of the decks function and theme, I included a handful of low mana value creatures that either surveilled or benefitted off of surveil besides any of the cards previously mentioned in other categories. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Faerie Dreamthief"}},{"insert":" serves as my preferred turn-1 drop and late game draw if necessary. "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Nightveil Sprite"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Sinister Starfish"}},{"insert":" function as repeatable sources of surveil outside Dakkon. Finally, "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Copy Catchers"}},{"insert":", "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Dimir Spybug"}},{"insert":", and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Whispering Snitch"}},{"insert":" allow me alternate ways of getting through the game and lowering health through go-wide, voltron, and drain respectively.\n\nMaybeboard - One thing I have noticed in this deck is its inability to effectively deal with multiple players at once or large hordes of creatures. Thus I have been considering "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Tragic Arrogance"}},{"insert":" and "},{"insert":{"card-link":"Single Combat"}},{"insert":".\n"}]}
